As CEO of a national company, Steve mentors his team by sharing his expertise in the construction and mechanical business. His can-do attitude and service-centered sense of urgency has bolstered the team to become the first-class provider in the industry.
Expertise
Steve began working and learning the trade at his father’s plumbing business at age 12. After graduating from Ohio State University in 1973, he started S.A. Comunale as a plumbing company.
Over the years, S.A. Comunale grew from a plumbing company into a nationwide, full-service mechanical and fire protection company with 14 branch offices.
In addition to his leadership at S.A. Comunale, Steve is chairman of the Stephen A. Comunale Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life of patients and families affected by cancer in the Akron area in memory of his son, sister, and wife.
Steve has received numerous awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year for Summit County awarded by the Ohio State Senate, and the Stellar Performer designation from Buckingham, Doolittle, and Burroughs, LLP.
He serves on the boards of Lee Brass, Summa Health, and AMG Industries (formerly Akron Metallic Gasket Company, a metal fabricator and automotive OEM supplier). He is a past president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Cleveland, and sits on numerous committees, including the Negotiating Committee for the National Fire Sprinkler Association.
He is also a member of the Bluecoats and the Summa Health Cancer Institute Leadership Council. He is a past board member of the Akron Art Museum, Interval Brotherhood Home, and Ohio Living Rockynol.
The Personal Side
Steve is a lifelong horse enthusiast. He has ridden and competed in show jumping nationwide for 35 years.
